Fundamentals of Lighting

the Three-point Setup

Practice Exercise -

  1. Practice the 3-point setup. This is probably the single most important practice exercise you can do as a filmmaker.

Even if you don't have a single "pro light" - this is something you need to practice. All you need is an iPhone and three desk lamps and you can put this strategy to use. Throw in a white bed sheet and you're really rocking.

  2. Start practicing the various creative techniques we outlined in the workshop:

    1. Lens flares

    2. Split lighting

    3. colour contrast

  3. Pick a scene you love from a movie or television show and try to recreate it!
